Should We Impeach Trump?

This is, undoubtedly, the hot topic in American politics. With the Mueller testimony underway, many are making the case on whether or not we should impeach Donald Trump. (Before I continue, I must say that I am not an expert on this situation, I am simply putting my two cents in and explaining what I feel would be the best route.) From an outsider perspective, I can see three issues with this topic.

  1. Not impeaching Trump: The evidence provided by Mueller could potentially be damning. Obstruction of justice and witness tampering does not even scratch the surface of this investigation. 34 people have either been indited, convicted, or have submitted guilty pleas. If we do not impeach Trump, will this set a dangerous precedent? By not going through with impeachment, will it send the message that future presidents can ‘get away with’ the same, if not more?
  2. Increased Polarization: Our country is divided. There is no doubting that. Our political atmosphere is becoming increasingly hostile, creating gridlock, making it nearly impossible to achieve a common goal. Could the impeachment of Trump push polarization even farther?
  3. Trump 2020: One wrong move could mean a victory for Trump. If impeachment documents are submitted it could lead to Democrats loosing the presidency in 2020. I think that impeachment would put strain on the American people.

It is hard to say what is right in this situation. I think that we should tread carefully. Come 2020 I hope that someone who is moderate takes office. We have been divided for far too long.
